It's really afterwards that you feel so shook up and shocked. Sure, the first shot always makes you jump a bit, like the first thunderclap of a summer storm would, but after that, training takes over. The most nervewracking are the lulls in a firefight when for no apparent reason all the firing stops. That's when this rush of feedback from all your senses that you have ignored due to your andrenal rush hits you... hard. Combat, true combat, really is unlike anything else in the world. Not that I particularly recommend it or anything.

yea, i understand that feeling... not from being under fire... but from something else. the under fire thing will possibly come later
